Nature’s Stress Relievers

Here are a few foods and drinks that may help ease some of that tension:

Fish

  • The omega-3 fatty acids may help moderate stress hormones and risks for depression

Dark Chocolate

  • May help lower blood pressure and stress hormones

Black Tea

  • Studies showed that drinking tea daily lowered the stress hormone cortisol and increased relaxation

Avocados

  • Contains potassium and monounsaturated fatty acids, both of which lower blood pressure.  As above, the fatty acids help with depression; believed to help the brain absorb serotonin, mood-booster

Crunchy Foods

  • Like celery and carrot sticks can help relax a tense jaw and tension

 Milk

  • Contains calcium which may help ease anxiety and mood swings

We will continue to pursue “stress relievers” because Lord knows we have enough of it!

I have also found that trees are good stress relievers. I live near the Metro Parks and when I take the time to walk the trail, I feel better, even more than just walking around the neighborhood. No purchase required! I also like chamomile tea for relaxation. There are some really nice brands out there. Sometimes caffeine is just too stimulating.
